Students’ Participation as a Catalyst for Pro-environmental Change - Activate University for Climate Change Project Case Study

Adamina Korwin-Szymanowska , Ewa Lewandowska

Abstract

The aim of the article is to present the process of participation in the Activate the University for Climate Change (ATTUNE) project implemented at five universities in Europe. The study adopted an ethnographic perspective, which allowed for a qualitative analysis of social participation in small working groups called research action teams (RATs). The analysis was based on the conceptual framework of Pretty's Typology of Participation (1995). The results show differences and similarities in the type of participation between the five countries, which affects the level of participation and the conditions for action in the university environment that influenced the activities of the RATs.
