Values in Times of Peace and War

Walentyna Wróblewska , Mirosław J. Szymański

Abstract

At a time of rapid social change typical of the present times, the durability of many elements of social life is shaken. The question arises to what extent this applies to the main component of every culture, which are values. They can be understood in different ways: psychologically, sociologically and culturally. The authors consider the durability and change of values in times of peace and war.
They recognize that even in extreme conditions such as during war, the most important values are permanent, but the hierarchy of values may change. Therefore, pedagogy and the activities of educators and their pedagogical mastery become even more important. They become even more significant factors determining the quality of education, the effectiveness of education and upbringing, and care for children and youth.
